When you don’t know what to do, just do one thing

One of the most famous quotes in the Silicon Valley startup community is from Bill Gurley.  Gurley is a general partner at Benchmark, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm in Menlo Park, California. The quote he is famous for goes like this:

more startups die of indigestion than starvation

What Bill advises is something I have blogged about before, FOCUS.  Bill takes it a step further on a short blog post on the Wall Street website titled Whatever You Do, Stay Competitive.  He starts this post by saying:

When an entrepreneur is unsure of what they want to do next, it is very common to work on many ideas at once.

Bottom line, Bill thinks this is a terrible choice to make.  If you get stuck not knowing how to make progress next, find the one thing you are doing better than anything else with, then do only that.
